Hi Cassie....

I'm Jane Gabrielson in Orlando, Florida, USA. I've written you two lengthy notes. This one is going to be short until I figure this blogging thing out. Let's see if I can get it to work...I'm OLD and not very adept at technology.

Hi Cassie...

Okay....one more time....

I'm Jane Gabrielson and I am your teacher's American mom (or "mum" as you like to say). Ms. Hansen lived with our family in 1994 and 1995. We consider her one of our daughters! I have 3 others...Wendy, Jenny and Susie.I have 3 grandchildren, Carly, Hayley and Jack and another one on the way!!

We have a river near Orlando. It's the St. John's River and is one of only 3 rivers in the world that flow south to north. Another one is the Nile River. I'm not sure what the third one is. Maybe you can find that out and let me know.

Every year in the Weikiva Springs (which is near the St. John's River)there is a massive clean-up project. Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, church youth groups and other civic organizations and just independent people help. They take canoes and large trash bags and pick up aluminum cans and other garbage that people leave behind in the water and on the shores. The springs are spring fed with really clear water but home development and other construction projects, plus water run-off and of course horrible littering have caused lots of problems for the wildlife that live around and in the springs. Maybe you could organize some kind of clean-up in your area for the spring or summer. You probably won't have to worry about the alligators in the water though!!
Also our big grocery store chain, Publix, has bins outside of the store so that people can return used plastic bags from any store, paper bags and the styrofoam containers that vegetable, fruit and meat are packaged in. I'm not sure what happens to them then, but if you're interested I'll find out for you. I'm sure that the store has a website. Their headquarters are in Lakeland, Florida.

Small things that you do can do to improve your space in our world, help to make the world a better place for all of us. Thank you for what you are hoping to do to make the world a better, cleaner place.

Someday I'm hoping that my husband, Scott and I will be able to visit NZ. We were planning to come to Ms. Hansen's wedding....but she outfoxed us on that one!! I've heard that New Zealand is the most beautiful country in the world.
